YOUR LOCAL RECYCLING RESOURCE

Supporting Kingwood and the greater Lake Houston Area

Fall BOPA is Coming

Recycle Batteries, Oils, latex Paints, Anti-freeze, scrap metal, and large appliances on November 7th from 9AM to 1PM

At the Metro P&R lot, at the corner of West Lake Houston Parkway and Rustic Woods.

Twice yearly, the City of Houston offers the collection of latex and water based paints, oils, batteries and anti freeze for the residents of the City in Kingwood.  Also, for your convenience, Junky Business will be there to collect appliances both large and small and scrap metal.  This is a great opportunity to clean out the garage and get rid of some materials that should not be sent to the landfill.

Due to Federal regulations the BOPA trucks cannot transport other hazardous waste materials.  You can however, take them to one of the City’s Environmental Service Centers for proper disposal.  If you live in the County you can take any of these items to the Harris County facility.  These include enamel paints and garden chemicals, like pesticides.

Go to the City of Houston's website to find a complete list of what the ESC’s will take.  And yes, they do take electronics at the City ESC’s.

The Harris County Multi Use HHW Collection Facility is located at 6900 Hahl Road, Houston, TX 77040, and you can reach them at (281) 560-6200

Most paints today are water based, so please use this convenient drop off here in Kingwood on November 7th to clear the clutter!

And since KKG can recycle your cell or smart phone, remember to bring those along, if you have old ones laying around in a drawer.

Still NO e-Waste Drop-Off

Electronic Recycling- not available at BOPA

Unfortunately the City and CompuCycle have not been able to work out a contract to continue the monthly e-waste recycling at the Metro lot.  They tell us they hope to bring it back, but we are not holding our breath.  Commodity prices are very low right now and the value of that old TV is less than zero.  It also has hazardous parts in it which should never go to the landfill.  So, what’s a person to do?  EZ - go to our website for alternative places to take your electronics.

We Need Your Help

Can you spare a few hours on November 7th?

Keep Kingwood Green volunteers will be helping with the BOPA event on November 7th.  We always assist with traffic flow, handing out fliers, and answering questions.  If you can give us a hand we could use a few good people that day.  It will make you feel good that you have helped do something for the community and the environment.  And, you also can have a free KKG T-shirt.  We are looking for about a three hour commitment on your part.

Send us an email if you can give us a hand.  Great for high school or college students looking to log some volunteer hours!

Halloween is just around the corner.

Saturday, October 31st

Each year hundred of thousands of pumpkins are used for jack-o-lanterns and then put into the trash.  Please consider composting your old pumpkin in your back yard.  Let the kids chop it up with a hammer or shovel and then bury it in a vacant flower or vegetable bed or put it in your existing pile.
