BOPA Returns this Saturday---
this week only from 9 AM to 1 PM!
The City of Houston mobile recycling crew returns this Saturday, April 25 to the Kingwood Park and Ride location to collect some of your hard to recycle items. BOPA stands for Batteries, Oils, Paints (latex only) and anti-freeze. As an additional service Junky Business will be there to collect scrap metals, appliances (both large and small), car parts, and any other metal objects you might have.
The BOPA collection is reserved for City of Houston residents and you will be asked for your zip code as proof of residency. The metals and appliance collection is open to all and no Houston residency is required
Electronic recycling is always held at the same spot the First Saturday of every month from 9 AM to 3 PM, so save your electronics for May 2nd or any first Saturday of any month!
Of course there are always exceptions: Keep Kingwood Green collects cell phones, I pads, I pods and smart phones to be recycled as a fundraiser for our non-profit organization. As you enter the lot from Lake Houston Parkway, a representative from Keep Kingwood Green will be there to answer your questions and accept your phone. You can also always drop these donations at Local Print Solutions or Alspaughs Ace Hardware in our collection box. At the event on Saturday we have a limited number of KKG Green shopping bags for any smart phones recycled.
We are always asked why the City cannot take other hazardous materials at these events. Unfortunately, by FTC rules they are not permitted to transport more hazardous substances on the roadways between Kingwood and the recycling center downtown. Residents can carry their own product in the trunk of their car or in a pick-up truck to the City’s two Environmental Service Centers where the items will be properly disposed of or recycled. Hope to see you Saturday!
