YOUR RECYCLING RESOURCE

Supporting Kingwood and the greater Lake Houston Area

Fall BOPA is Coming!

Recycle batteries, oils, latex paints, anti-freeze, scrap metal, and large appliances on October 25th from 9AM to 1PM

Councilman Dave Martin, the City of Houston Solid Waste Department, and Keep Kingwood Green are happy to bring the residents of Kingwood an opportunity to recycle latex paints, oils, anti-freeze, batteries, scrap metal, and large appliances on October 25th at the Kingwood Park n Ride lot. This event is only for residents of the City of Houston.

In 2013 Kingwood residents recycled over 53,000 pounds of these items at the two BOPA events.  Check our web site for more details and pictures of prior events.

Seldom is the wait more than five or ten minutes, so bring your items and stop by to say “hi” to the Keep Kingwood Green crew that will be there to answer your questions.

One question that always comes up is:  “What about other hazardous waste products such as enamel paints and lawn chemicals?”  The city crew does not have a license to transport those kinds of hazardous materials.  Both the City and the County do have facilities where you can take these items.  Go to:  www.keepkingwoodgreen.org  for more information on these facilities and the services they offer.
October Monthly e-Waste

October 4                   9 AM to 3 PM
Start the month out by collecting and recycling all your old and unused electronics and small appliances.  Just about anything with a plug other than large appliances are fair game.

Compucycle will be at the Kingwood Metro Park and Ride lot on Saturday, October 4th from 9 AM to 3 PM.   Last month you recycled over 20,000 pounds of this “stuff” which was cluttering your garage, closets and other living areas.

Let’s fill the trucks again this month and keep these items out of the landfill---not to mention your living areas!  This service is free and available to all residents of the Lake Houston Area.

Document Shredding

October 4th                          9 AM to Noon
Keller Williams Realty is offering a community shred date at their facility on Lake Houston Parkway and Upper Lake in Atascocita.  Call 281-358-4545 for more details.

$5 / box donation accepted, supporting KW Cares!

The City of Houston also offers this service once a year in Kingwood; however, the next Kingwood event will probably be in mid 2015.  We always announce that event on our web site

Master Composting Class

October 9th thru 12th          20 hours
Our yards and trees in the Lake Houston area produce tons of leaves and other green waste each month.  Much of this is sent to the Atascocita landfill when it is mixed with other trash.  There is an alternative---turning it into rich organic compost.

“Tried that, done that, but it didn’t work!” you say?  Well, help is here!

The City of Houston is offering this 20 hour course to give you the skills necessary to do it right.  If you are interested please send a note to Hal@keepkingwoodgreen.org for more information.

Halloween is Coming!

October 31st
Each year thousands of pumpkins are used for jack-o-lanterns and then put into the trash.  This year, consider composting your old pumpkin in your back yard.  Let the kids chop it up with a hammer or shovel and then bury it in a vacant flower or vegetable bed.

Next year whatever you grow there will be extra healthy!
Or you could do what grandmother used to do - make it into a pie!
